Dr. McMahon grew up in Washington State. After completing his internship he spent two years as a general medical practitioner in Bethel, Alaska.

In between and after his medical residency he worked overseas in Puerto Rico, Central India and Tonga. Since 1978 he has been at ANMC and worked in both Internal Medicine and Hepatology. Dr. McMahon is Research and Medical Director of the Liver Disease and Hepatitis Program and conducts research on hepatitis A, B and C and other liver diseases in Alaskan Natives.

Dr. McMahon is married with two grown children. He loves hiking, mountain biking and mountain racing. He has run in the Mt. Marathon race for the past 5 years.
