Internal Medicine Opportunities at Alaska Native Medical Center

A message from the Department Chair
Richard L. Neubauer MD, FACP

Welcome to this web site describing the Internal Medicine department at the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC). This site is specifically for physicians, students and residents who may be interested in working here. ANMC offers unique and memorable opportunities to practice medicine and to be an internist.

ANMC is located in Anchorage, Alaska a city of around 260,000 residents in southcentral Alaska. Anchorage is not only the largest city in the state, but also the portal for going just about anywhere in Alaska. While small by urban standards, Anchorage is surprisingly urbane. This is a great place to live, participate in endless recreational activities, and raise a family.

The medical experience here is rich and varied. While we see many of the same ailments typical of the rest of the United States, we also see conditions unique to our population. These include paralytic shellfish poisoning and botulism based on unique dietary habits. Internists here also generally participate in more procedural medicine than is typical in other settings, while also enjoying subspecialty support including intensivist services. We are devoted to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients and improving the general health of the Alaska Native Peoples.

Thank you for visiting our web site, and let me know if you have any questions.

We can't promise a moose in every yard, but in Anchorage, the odds are good!
